FRAGONIA ESSENTIAL OIL
Agonis fragrans
Fragonia essential oil is an exciting new addition to the aromatherapist’s collection. It has only been available since 2006 but has rapidly gained popularity. Fragonia is distilled from the stems and branches of Fragonia, a small bush in the Myrtaceae family found in southwestern parts of Australia. The fragrant evergreen bush can reach a height of up to 2.5m and is known for its resilience. It is often compared to Tea-tree oil but has a gentler, sweeter scent making it more suitable as an ingredient of aromatherapy products such as bath or massage oils. Very little is known about the traditional uses of this plant since the area to which it is endemic was settled late.
This oil oxidizes and deteriorates quickly. It is best to store it safely, in a cool, dark place.
Traditional
Traditional uses are not known for this plant. However, it has been well researched in recent years. Test results show antimicrobial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It also has pain-relieving qualities that can be used to relieve muscle aches and painful joints. Its camphor-like scent soothes symptoms of the upper respiratory tract. It can be used for steam inhalations. In dilution, it can be applied topically to treat inflammatory skin conditions.
Magical
The oil can be used for protection and balance. It can help to calm anxious spirits and to re-establish inner balance after suffering an emotional upset.
